Successors.app - The AI Career Webapp
From “Why am I not getting hired?” to “I know exactly what I need to do next.”

01
The problem
I kept seeing people around me and online talking about layoffs, prolonged job searches and sending applications without getting meaningful responses. There is only so much an individual can control about the job market, but there is one thing we can control: how prepared we are for the next opportunity.
- Existing career products already do a good job at parts of this journey. Resume builders can improve how you present yourself. Job platforms can help you discover relevant roles. AI tools can help tailor applications, but most of these tools primarily work with what you already have.
- They help answer: “Which jobs am I suitable for?” I wanted to answer a different question: “What would it take for me to become suitable for the job I really want?”
02
The insight
People often know what they want, but they might not know how far away they are. Someone applying to their dream role may repeatedly wonder: “Why am I not getting interviews?” However, a rejection doesn't tell them what to fix. Maybe they lack a particular technical skill. Maybe they don't have enough experience at the required scale. Maybe their experience doesn't demonstrate the type of work the company needs. Or maybe they actually have the capability, but haven't demonstrated it clearly enough.
- Without this visibility, candidates can fall into a frustrating loop: Apply → Get rejected → Apply again → Hope for a different result.
- I wanted to introduce a different loop: Assess → Identify gaps → Improve → Reassess → Apply → Prepare → Interview
03
The product hypothesis
I believed that if candidates could clearly understand: 1. Where they currently stand, 2. Why they are or aren't a strong match, 3. Exactly what they're missing, 4. What they can do to close those gaps. That's when they would have a much clearer path towards their target role.
- The goal isn't to tell someone: “You're not qualified.” It is to tell them: “Here's where you stand. Here's what's holding you back. Here's what you can do about it.”
04
From resume to offer
I designed SUCCESSORS as an end-to-end career journey, rather than another standalone resume tool. It first helps users understand their existing experience, skills and strengths through AI-powered resume analysis, then evaluates their fit against a specific target role by comparing their evidence with the job requirements. Instead of stopping at a compatibility score, SUCCESSORS clearly surfaces their strengths, the requirements they already demonstrate, and the gaps they need to close, turning an abstract score into a clear path towards becoming a stronger candidate.
05
Turning gaps into action
This is where SUCCESSORS moves beyond job matching: identifying a gap is only valuable if the candidate knows how to close it. SUCCESSORS categorises gaps by the type of action required, prioritises them by severity, and translates them into a practical development plan, from immediate actions such as building an enterprise AI case study or researching responsible AI frameworks, to longer-term goals such as gaining B2B experience and building evidence of responsible AI practices. As candidates build new skills and experiences, they can return to update their profile and reassess their compatibility, turning the product into a continuous loop of career development rather than a one-time assessment.
- This creates a continuous improvement loop: Know → Improve → Reassess → Apply
06
Preparing for the final step
Getting closer to the role isn't the end of the journey. Once a candidate feels ready to apply, SUCCESSORS helps them prepare for the interview. The product connects interview preparation back to the target role and the candidate's profile, rather than treating interview practice as a generic question generator.
- The broader journey becomes: Resume → Target job → Compatibility → Gaps → Development → Reassessment → Application → Interview preparation
07
Why AI?
AI makes it possible to connect a candidate’s resume, experience and skills with a role’s specific requirements at a scale that would otherwise require significant manual analysis. Rather than producing an unexplained compatibility score, I designed SUCCESSORS around explainability: every assessment is supported by clear reasoning that users can evaluate, challenge and act upon, while their disagreements create a feedback loop for improving the system.
08
A key product decision
I shifted SUCCESSORS from “find me a job” to “help me become ready for the job.” While the initial concept focused on matching users with roles and encouraging more targeted applications, I realised that more applications do not necessarily address why someone is struggling to get hired. The product therefore evolved towards a more valuable question: “What can I improve so that my next application has a better chance?”
09
Designing for motivation
I wanted the product to feel empowering rather than judgemental, turning a potentially discouraging compatibility score into a clear understanding of where the candidate stands today and what they can do next. This principle shaped the entire experience: the score creates awareness, the gap analysis creates clarity, the roadmap creates action, reassessment creates motivation, and interview practice builds confidence.
10
Building the product end-to-end
I took this product from initial idea to launch end-to-end, spanning product strategy, problem definition, architecture, UX/UI, AI workflows, development, branding, testing, analytics and iteration. More importantly, it allowed me to explore AI as a product intelligence layer: analysing a candidate’s experience, interpreting a job description, comparing the two, identifying specific skill gaps, generating a personalised development roadmap, and then using that context to power interview practice, rather than treating AI as a standalone chatbot.
11
What success looks like
SUCCESSORS has only recently launched, so I do not yet have enough traction data to make meaningful claims about its impact. The core hypothesis I am now testing is: motivated job seekers will find greater value in understanding not only whether they match a role, but what they can actively do to become a stronger candidate. I will validate this through engagement across resume analysis, role matching, gap analysis, development roadmaps, reassessment and interview practice, with the strongest signal being whether users act on recommendations, return to update their profiles, and reassess their progress over time.
12
What's next
The long-term vision is to make SUCCESSORS a more complete career advancement platform. One natural extension is bringing job discovery directly into the product, allowing users to search for opportunities without leaving the webapp. That would create an even tighter loop: Discover → Assess → Improve → Reassess → Apply → Interview. The larger vision remains the same: Help motivated people systematically become the person their dream job is looking for.
